New to tokens? A token is a chunk of text, roughly three quarters of a word, so a million tokens is about 750,000 words: around 1,500 pages, or 8 novels. Input tokens are what the model reads, output tokens are what it writes, and the writing is the expensive half. It costs more to have a person write a report than to have them read one, and models bill the same way.
